Naturally, the Alabama quarterback battle was a big topic, to the legendary coach’s chagrin.Alabama is in the advantageous, yet touchy, place of having two quarterbacks that are probably good enough to win a national title. With that being the case, both of those guys are going to want to be in situations where they can play.Jalen Hurts led the team to the title game last year, losing to Deshaun Watson’s Clemson Tigers. This year, he brought Alabama back, but struggled in the first half vs. Georgia and was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa, who led the Crimson Tide to the win.Tagovailoa admitted that he had some transfer thoughts during the season. Now, Hurts is a serious transfer risk for Alabama.Nick Saban insists that no choice has been made between Hurts and Tagovailoa in the Alabama quarterback battle. He got pretty snippy with reporters when asked about it during his press conference this afternoon.Saban: “It’s still to be determined who will play quarterback for Alabama. You can ask all the questions you want, but it’s still to be determined.”— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) July 18, 2018Nick Saban at #SECMD18: On the “quarterback controversy that you love to create and have already created … is still to be determined.”— Gene Sapakoff (@Sapakoff) July 18, 2018That’s no surprise. You got annoyed Saban during these things more often than not.Still, it is a very valid question. Two of the best quarterbacks in the country are on the same roster, and there’s a very good chance that one is on his way out when a decision is made.Saban’s timeline was actually aided by a spring injury to Tagovailoa. He is the expected winner of the quarterback battle, even if it lasts into the season. However, he was very limited due to a hand injury in the spring, making it impossible to really make a determination during the spring. In all likelihood, we’ll see both guys get time for at least a few weeks to start the year.
