Separatists joint forum, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik, on Tuesday called for a protest march during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to J&K. “People should march towards the historic Lal Chowk on Saturday [May 19] to protest Mr. Modi’s visit,” said a JRL spokesman. Mr. Modi is visiting the State on Saturday and will inaugurate many development projects. The separatists also expressed anger over deaths in Palestine in Israeli action on Monday. “I lament the world’s indifference towards grave injustice and repression perpetuated upon Palestinians, thrown out of their own land by a powerful occupier. People of Kashmir sympathise and empathise with the Palestinian people,” said the Mirwaiz.Mr. Geelani asked the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation “to take stock of the situation and use its good offices on diplomatic front to deter the policy of genocide of the weaker nations of the world at the hands of imperialistic powers”.
As the focus is likely to shift to alternative products from single-use plastic that India plans to ban, millions of people, especially tribals residing in Odisha’s forest-rich regions, expect an upturn in their income.Close to five million people in Odisha are currently involved in plate-making using both hand and machine stitching methods. They depend on two major leaves of forest species – sal and siali – for their earnings.“Odisha’s leaf plate and cup market is worth ₹1,500 crore. While 2.5 million people mostly tribals are sal leaf pluckers, 1.5 million are siali leaf pluckers. Around one million are connected with other leaves,” said Chittaranjan Pani, a leading expert on non-timber forest product trade. As soon as plastic products are banned, the focus will shift to degradable materials and leaf plates and cups are one of the obvious choices. In 22 of the 30 districts of Odisha, inhabitants of forest-fringe villages are traditionally involved in leaf-plate making. In some districts, tribal women have already formed federations to get a better deal in the trade.

French sensation Kylian Mbappé, was the first ever young player to receive the brand new Kopa Award during the Ballon d’Or gala last Monday. The world of football journalism is learning that they have to be more inclusive in order to evolve, they didn’t only give the first ever Ballon d’Or to the best female player of 2018 but they also gave the new Kopa Award to Kylian Mbappé.Created in the name of football legend Raymond Kopa, this prize is delivered to the best under 21 player in the world and the PSG forward was the obvious choice.Kylian Mbappé had already started his career two years ago when he mesmerized the whole world after making his official debut for AS Monaco, two years later he is already a World Cup champion with France and one of the most expensive football players in history after PSG paid a staggering €180 million for his services. His already impressive numbers from the first year as a professional have done nothing but grow since he moved to the French giants, he has even eclipsed Neymar during his time there and has even managed to earn a better spot in this year’s Ballon d’Or selection.Mbappé already is the future of world football, the true heir to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.I just want to follow my dreams…🖤 pic.twitter.com/By6KXDjTnZ— Kylian Mbappé (@KMbappe) December 4, 2018We would advise you to not confuse this new award with the Golden Boy prize, which is also delivered by the press but it was actually created by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The France Football Kopa Award is brand new and Mbappé is the first-ever player to receive it, he was right there next to Luka Modric and Ada Hererberg taking all the pictures that confirm he is the best young player in the world right now.But Kylian Mbappé’s year is even more impressive by a few other factors, one being that he even beat Lionel Messi on the list of player voted by the press to be the best in the world this year. While Leo was ranked fifth with 280 points received, the French youngster was fourth with 347 votes in his name.Kylian was only 67 points behind the third place in the podium, which was his compatriot Antoine Griezmann and 131 points behind the second-placed Cristiano Ronaldo.Neymar responds to PSG criticism with a stunning winner Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 14, 2019 Despite all the backlash he got today at Parc des Princes, Neymar responded by scoring a stunning winner vs Strasbourg. We all knew that Neymar’s…Mbappé’s credit is huge given that he is still very young and his career is only getting started.Always together 😍.. pic.twitter.com/V4RcQzZhLD— Kylian Mbappé (@KMbappe) December 4, 2018With this position inside the list for the adult players, it was pretty obvious that Kylian Mbappé would be the first-ever Kopa Award winner as he stepped on stage to receive the huge honor. This young talent is the one who is leading the brand new generation of very talented footballers to the new era, but he is not the only one who is performing at an alarmingly high level as there are many other great players who have the skill to deliver results and trophies for their club or country. However, despite how impressive the new generations of talented players appear to be right now, Mbappé still seems like the very best star inside a whole constellation of truly amazing talents. We are all in awe with the potentially dominating career that he will have in the next decade, we are also eager to know if he will decide to remain at PSG for his whole career or if he will choose to make the jump to one of the biggest clubs in the world such as FC Barcelona or Real Madrid. We saw him cross paths with president Florentino Perez during the ceremony, maybe they spoke about the future, maybe not.Trophée KOPA 🏆✅ pic.twitter.com/eWAyrgcuGV— Kylian Mbappé (@KMbappe) December 3, 2018How long do you think it will take Kylian Mbappé to win his first Ballon d’Or? Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan opposed recommendations in the BN Srikrishna Committee report, and termed merging of all regulators into one entity as “schizophrenic”.The report was submitted in March 2013. Rajan debated regarding the recommendations mentioned in it during an industry event in Mumbai on Tuesday. Financial Sector Legislative Reforms Committee (FSLRC) report is important in the financial history but most of the recommendations are “faddish” and “impressionistic” than scientific, according to Rajan. The RBI governor points out two “fundamental areas of tension” from the report in his speech. One is the size and scope of regulators and the other is the negligence of regulators. Rajan claims the report does not give importance to the magnitude of synergies gained or lost.”It emphasizes synergies in bringing together some regulators into one entity. But in the process it suggests breaking up other regulators, with attendant loss of synergies,” he pointed out.The report suggests that laws which do not micromanage, gives regulators the freedom to fill in the details, in accordance with the changing needs of the economy.Speaking of this suggestion, Rajan stated: “At the same time, the FSLRC wants to check and balance the activities of regulators through judicial oversight. Too much of checks and balances could completely vitiate the flexibility afforded by rewriting laws.”Rajan opposed the recommendation mentioned in the report that merging of all regulation of trading will be done under one roof and consumer protection regulation under another. According to him, if it is implemented, then it will slow down the consistency and development of the market. The RBI governor said if the government wants to manage its own debt, then the RBI will not come in its way.”I don’t believe the government suffers any less from conflicts of interest in debt management (unlike the views of the FSLRC), but the RBI could well carry out the government’s instructions without any loss in welfare,” he said.Rajan was not in favor of implementing such recommendations as according to him, if something is not broken, there is no need to fix it.”As the Chinese would say, let us recognize the value of crossing the river by feeling each stone before we put our weight on it. Let us not take a blind jump hoping that a stone will be there to support us when we land. Or in American, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” he said.

RapeNinety-four per cent women commuting on public transport in the country have experienced sexual harassment in verbal, physical and other forms, reports UNB quoting a study of development organisation BRAC.The findings of the study titled ‘Roads free from sexual harassment and crash for women’ were disseminated at a programme at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday, marking the International Women’s Day that falls on Thursday.A somewhat surprising revelation of the study is that males belonging to relatively older age group of 41-60 years have been identified as the major perpetrators who are responsible for 66 per cent of such incidents. The study also mentioned factors, including lax implementation of law, excessive crowd in buses and weak or no monitoring (such as absence of closed-circuit cameras) as the major causes behind the sexual harassment in roads and public transport, especially in buses.Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, professor Simeen Mahmud, Fahmida Saadia Rahman and Kabita Chowdhury conducted the research. The research was conducted during a three-month period between April and June, 2017 where a total of 415 women participated in Gazipur, Dhaka and Birulia of Savar upazila in Dhaka district.According to the research, 35 per cent respondents using public transport said they faced sexual harassment from males belonging to the age group of 19-35 years. Around 59 per cent faced such harassment from the males who are 26-40 years old.The forms of sexual harassment experienced by the respondents include deliberate touching of victim’s body with chest and other parts, pinching, standing too close to the victim and pushing, touching victim’s hair, putting hand on their shoulder, touching private parts of the victim.Asked what women do when they are victim of such harassments, 81 per cent women said they kept silent while 79 per cent said they moved away from the place of harassment. It was observed in the study that the present education system in which male and female children attend institutions separately restricts the scope for learning gender equality lessons as well as building the attitude and habit of treating both the sexes equally and with respect. To help children develop such an attitude, adequate training and counselling of teachers and counsellors are essential, it noted.Syed Saad Andaleeb said the pervasive nature of sexual harassment on roads and transport calls for a much larger study that will reflect the nationwide scenario in this regard.Speakers at the event also observed that although commendable progress has been made in the country in terms of women’s education and professional engagement, the feeling of insecurity among women is pervasive. To address the existing issues, they demanded stricter implementation of laws apart from the initiatives to raise public awareness.
His grave was dug and his body was about to be buried — just when some of the family members noticed movement. Mourning stopped and a bewildered family rushed Mohammad Furqan to an Indian hospital where he has been put on ventilator. The 20-year-old was admitted to a private hospital on 21 June after an accident. He was declared dead on Monday and his body arrived at his home in an ambulance. His elder brother Mohammad Irfan said: “Devastated, we were preparing for the burial when some of us saw movement in his limbs. We immediately took Furqan to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where the physicians said he was alive and put him on ventilator support.””We had paid Rs 700,000 to the private hospital earlier and when we told them that we had run out of money, they had declared Furqan dead on Monday,” Irfan said.Lucknow chief medical officer (CMO) Narendra Agarwal said, “We have taken cognizance of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly probed.””The patient is in critical condition but definitely not brain dead. He has pulse, blood pressure and his reflexes are working. He has been put on ventilator support,” the physician treating Furqan said.
