2 incumbents re-elected to Montebello Unified

Calderon received 5,150 votes or 46 percent; and Vela, 4336 votes or 38 percent, while challenger David Manuel received 1,819 votes or 16 percent. The two incumbents, who defeated David Manuel, spent more than $53,000. Calderon raised $43,160, spent $42,834 and was loaned $4,000 from The Calderon Group, according to her financial statements filed with the county clerk’s office. One of the race’s main issues according to Calderon, Vela and David Manuel was the federal No Child Left Behind Act to make public schools accountable regarding student achievement. They said it needs to be revamped or taken off the books.
